The SouthernXC is British Cycling’s regional Mountain Bike race series for the South. We have great pleasure in organising races for everyone, regardless of your age, experience or gender – over the years we have dished out thousands of numbers, loads of them to riders who were looking to scratch their competitive itch for the first time and at the opposite end of the scale a good number of them have been used by Olympic hopefuls!

SouthernXC Round 1 - Checkendon - 29 April
Southern XC – Round 1 – 29 April 2018
Hammonds Farm, Checkendon – RG8 0NTEnter Here
The Course – The course at Checkendon is one of the fastest around. Weaving in and out of the trees, it makes its way around an ancient woodland that has been used for over 20 years of mountain bike racing. Though the course at Hammonds Farm is super fast it is fairly flat making it great for less experienced riders.
Fun Fact – Local rumour (and a bit of googling) suggest that a small procession of ghostly nuns use the paths around Hammonds Wood for their evening exercise!
SouthernXC Round 2 - Crow Hill - 27 May
Southern XC – Round 2 – 27 May 2018
Crow Hill, Ringwood – BH24 3DAEnter Here
The Course – There is a great mix of singletrack and fire road riding with plenty of ups and downs to keep you on your toes. Although any rider from anywhere in the country can enter, this round will incorporate the 2018 British Cycling Regional Championships for Central, South and South West. If you are a BC member and have any of these regions on your licence you’ll be in with a shout of taking some silverware home.
Fun Fact – Legend has it that in the mid 1700’s Smugglers used an unofficial track that still circumnavigates the race course, to move contraband inland from the coast. You may notice ‘Smugglers car park’ on the left as you approach the venue.
SouthernXC Round 3 - Pippingford - 24 June
Southern XC – Round 3 – 24 June 2018
Pippingford Park, Nutley – TN22 3HWEnter Here
The Course – This place is off the charts! It’s got everything that a mountain bike race course needs; fast flowing singletrack, some fire road for overtaking, climbs to keep the mountain goats happy and even a descent that former DH World Champ Steve Peat has clocked a time on!
Fun Fact – Pippingford Park is in the heart of the Ashdown Forest, otherwise known as 100 Acre Wood….that’s right, A. A. Milne lived nearby and used Ashdown Forest as the setting for the much loved Winnie-the-Pooh stories.
SouthernXC Round 4 - Matterley - 15 July
Southern XC – Round 4 – 15 July 2018
Matterley Basin, Winchester – SO21 1HWEnter Here
The Course – Matterley Basin is situated on the top of the South Downs, meaning that you’ll be blessed with stunning views whilst you enjoy the ups and downs that this course has to offer. With such a varied terrain this is always a favourite on the Southern XC calendar.
Fun Fact – Long before Boomtown, the MXGP or even the SouthernXC made Matterley their home, there were some pretty big things going on in the Basin. In 1944 General Eisenhower, who went on to become President of the USA, addressed the allied forces in the Bowl before the D-Day Landings
